Overview:
HPE MSA2 / MSA2000 controller enclosures and large form factor expansion enclosures require unique HPE SAS disk drive modules with specific firmware and trays, different from those used in other HPE storage arrays and Proliant servers. These disk drives have SAS interposers attached to the back, converting the native dual-port SAS interface to an SCA-40 connector. Although the SCA-40 connector has the same shape as a Fibre Channel (FC) connector, the drives do not use the FC protocol. Upon closer inspection of the interposer, the circuitry is relatively simple, with no bridge/translator chip attached. The interposer mainly acts as a signal filter and port relocater, connecting to the MSA2's proprietary backplane.
